Best pubs in the West Midlands revealed

The National Pub & Bar Awards has announced the best pubs and bars from each county across the United Kingdom.

In total, 94 venues from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have been selected as the best in their county, and will now make their way to the National Pub & Bar Awards grand final at BAFTA in London on Tuesday May 23.

At the final, the 94 County Winners will be in the running to be named the best in their region. The overall National Pub & Bar of Year will also be announced.

Six pubs and bars in the West Midlands will battle it out to become the very best in the region.

Herefordshire – The Bridge Inn
The Bridge Inn, which sits in the idyllic village of Michaelchurch Escley, is a 16th century inn and restaurant. The inn offers bed and breakfast in a converted farmhouse as well as a romantic yurt, a shepherd’s hut and camping facilities. The pub offers a wide real cider selection from local producers, as well as beer and wine and the menu, which changes often, contains belly pork, salmon and traditional dishes like pie and lamb.

Shropshire – The Boathouse Bar + Grill
Sitting on the banks of the River Severn, this pub comes with impressive views of the Quarry Park and the river. The log fire is lit during the winter and the beer garden gives locals a place to catch up with friends during the warmer months. The pub also hosts a range of events, including a gin festival, and an impressive menu, including a deli board, Shropshire gold battered cod and cider pulled pork.

Staffordshire – The Fitzherbert Arms
After a restoration project, The Fitzherbert Arms reopened in early 2016. The venue has an impressive history and dates back to around 1818 and is at the centre of the old village of Swynnerton on Lord Stafford’s estate. The pub offers over 30 different Ports, as well as a selection of Staffordshire cask ales, including Swynnerton Stout, which is brewed locally at Titanic Brewery. The menu offers Staffordshire oatcakes, rib eye steak and fish pie.

Warwickshire – The George Townhouse
The George Townhouse, which was given a makeover in early 2016, is three and a half stories and is home to fifteen bedrooms, as well as a bar and restaurant. The 18th century building sits on Shipston High Street and the team put on various events around the year. The pub boasts locally sourced drinks, including beer which is brewed a short drive away, a selection of gin and wine. The menu offers roasted seabass, grilled halloumi and duck.

West Midlands – The Old Joint Stock
The Old Joint Stock, which sits in Birmingham city centre, was built in 1862 and was originally designed a library before becoming a bank, and later a pub. The pub offers craft lager and seasonal ale and the menu offers a wide selection of pies as well as venison shank and sharing dishes. The venue is also home to a 100-seat theatre, where musical theatre, comedy and more takes to the stage.

Worcestershire – The Swan Inn, Hanley Swan
Situated just off the Worcester Road, The Swan Inn in Hanley Swan offers locally sourced ingredients on a menu that is changed regularly. The pub, which also have five bedrooms, offers chargrilled steak, wild mushroom wellington, pan fried monkfish and a duo of Cotswold sausages. The venue also offers a buffet menu and an impressive wine list.
