Stoke food testing firm acquired in £6m deal

STAFFORDSHIRE-based testing firm Food Analytical Laboratory has been bought out in a £6m deal by global company Intertek Group.

AL is a food testing laboratory which provides chemical and microbiological services for food producers in the UK.

It employs 73 people at its base in Stoke and becomes Intertek’s third operation in the West Midlands alongside bases in Rugby and Coventry.

Intertek is an international provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries and FAL will join its industry and assurance division.

Intertek has announced two further acquisitions today of QinetiQ UK’s fuel and lubricants testing business for £500,000 and Recherche, Development and Consulting based in Brussels for £5m.

Chief executive Wolfhart Hauser said: “FAL will bring new expertise to Intertek and provide a UK-based food testing laboratory to complement the existing food services business.

“We look forward to welcoming these companies and their management teams to Intertek.”
