The senior management at Birmingham City Council has suffered another blow after the authority’s deputy chief executive announced he is to quit his role.

Paul Dransfield’s exit comes just four months after the departure of former chief executive Mark Rogers.

Mr Dransfield has spent 10 years with the authority and has wide local authority experience after 23 years in the Midlands.

Since early 2016 he has been working in a hybrid role on areas mainly in transition, most of which will now be fitted into the permanent city council structure or taken on by the West Midlands Combined Authority. He also represents the council on a number of council- related companies or joint ventures as part of his role.

The work on major projects for BCC will become part of the newly formed projects division of the council’s Economy Directorate, led by Waheed Nazir. The work on the combined authority’s investment plan and the HS2 Growth Strategy will be incorporated into the permanent management structure of the WMCA.

Interim Chief Executive Stella Manzie said: “The visible impact of Paul’s contribution to Birmingham and to the council can be seen all over the city, not least in Grand Central where Paul played a major role in the project management of the development. Paul has held a number of senior  roles in the council and we wish him well.”

He will leave the council on July 31 to allow a suitable period to complete handover arrangements including representation on relevant companies.

As a consequence of the review of the council’s senior management, which began in January 2017, the post of Strategic Director Major Projects and Programmes, held by Mr Dransfield is to be deleted.
