Cycling charity wins LoveBrum funding

Chapter II Youth Cycling

LoveBrum has awarded £2,000 to a local cycling charity that aims to promote road safety for children and young people.

Chapter II Youth Cycling, based in Birmingham, aims to create a safe space for children and young people to ride their road bikes in a casual and non-competitive environment.

LoveBrum selects three good causes around one theme and asks its members to vote for one of the organisations. June’s theme was sports.

Chapter II Youth Cycling

The charity was founded by professional racer Kelly Murphy in an attempt to give back to the sport. Chapter II hold four bike rides every Saturday, with each catering for different ages and abilities. The rides, which are based on slow, medium and fast paced road routes, take place within Sutton Park.

Chapter II aims to teach road safety and cycling etiquette to ensure attendees can enjoy the sport whilst understanding bike maintenance. They also see it as a great way for locals to get outside and get fit.

With the funding from LoveBrum, the organisation will be able to expand and get more people qualified to coach new youth riders. They will also invest in first aid training for more f their members, as well as providing resources, like spare bikes and insurance.

The other finalists for the funding included Villa Rockets and Saltley Stallions.

Villa Rockets is a powerchair football club, which aims to get young people in wheelchairs enjoying sports.

Saltley Stallions is a football club, based in Saltley, which uses football as an engagement tool to get young people back into education or into work.
