A Midlands engineering company has expanded with the creation of 15 jobs following a string of new orders.

Muller Holdings, which has sites in Cleobury Mortimer, Redditch, South Wales and Wednesbury, is one of the UK’s leading sub contract machinists.

The expansion, designed to give the firm the necessary capacity to achieve turnover of £16m by 2020,  coincides with the 90th anniversary of the business.

The new orders, which includes work for the automotive sector, smart gas meters and the production of parts for the GripIt building products, are worth around £500,000 to the business.

The company, which relocated to Shropshire from London to escape the blitz during World War Two, specialises in CNC milling, turning, multi-spindle and CNC/Conventional escomatic manufacturing services. It underwent an MBO in 1993.

Its components are used in some of the best selling cars in the world, along with dental products and heating appliances.

Paul Bethell, managing director, said: “90 years of manufacturing is some achievement and we have a colourful history, from starting life owned by the Swiss and supplying the Ministry of Defence, to becoming Cleobury Mortimer’s largest employer and forging an exciting joint venture in India.

“Our business has been based on technical excellence and providing precision machining solutions and these two attributes have remained constant despite the changing economic and industrial picture.

“Whilst we are very proud of our history, the focus now is on the next nine decades and the first half of 2017 has been very good for all of our four sites in the UK. Turnover has increased across our key markets and our pipeline of enquiries has received a boost from the drop in sterling.”

The last two years has seen the business invest more than £850,000 in new machinery.

The group’s workforce currently stands at 150 and is expected to grow by 10% by the end of the year.

The new positions are likely to be a mix of experienced manufacturers plus additional apprentices.

Muller is also part of the Midlands Assembly Network, the nine-strong group of sub-contract manufacturers who work together to win orders and share best practice and resource.
