Fertility group hatches growth plan with expansion into Birmingham

CARE Fertility arrives in Edgbaston

A leading fertility group has become the latest company to move into Birmingham’s growing medical quarter.

CARE Fertility Group, which provides fertility treatment, has opened an IVF centre at 27 Highfield Road, Edgbaston.

The 10,000 sq ft property, part of the Calthorpe Estate, has undergone a complete refurbishment. It sits in the heart of the Edgbaston Medical Quarter (EMQ).

CARE Fertility has set up the operation to offer the very latest treatments and will employ up to 50 people in a variety of roles including clinicians, nurses, scientists and patient support services.

Professor Simon Fishel, who in addition to founding the group, is also its President and Head of Research & Development, said: “The West Midlands is crucial to CARE Fertility’s expansion plans. Our successful network will be enhanced by the addition of CARE Birmingham. Local patients who currently travel to our Nottingham clinic will have a centre of excellence in Edgbaston with Professor Arri Coomarasamy heading up our experienced team of fertility specialists.

“Locating CARE in Highfield Road gives us the opportunity to join a flourishing medical community within Edgbaston Medical Quarter while also sitting within Edgbaston Village, with its thriving leisure and lifestyle facilities.  Both aspects will be of great benefit to our patients as well as local clinicians and we look forward to making a substantial contribution to an already successful community.”

Mark Lee, chief executive of Calthorpe Estates, said: “CARE Fertility is highly-regarded in its field, and its investment within Edgbaston is testament to the many advantages medical, healthcare and Life Sciences organisations see in being part of EMQ’s ongoing success.

“EMQ is now home to over 180 medical organisations, 80 hospitals and specialist centres, 44 GP clinics and 23 training facilities – many within walking distance of each other and all benefiting from Edgbaston’s infrastructure and wider residential, leisure and educations facilities.

“Calthorpe Estates’ strategy enables us to provide support for a range of businesses – from those who want a purpose-built facility to those looking for existing buildings with the potential for conversion or change of use, right through to individual consulting rooms.”

He said a flexible, customer-focused approach towards meeting the specialist needs of medical organisations had proved crucial in attracting businesses such as CARE Fertility to the city.
