Lloyd Webber brews up plans for one of Birmingham’s most anticipated buildings

Professor Julian Lloyd Webber, Birmingham Conservatoire Principal and Gareth Bateman, Head Brewer, Wye Valley Brewery

Julian Lloyd Webber has paid a visit to Wye Valley Brewery to mark the opening of one of Birmingham’s most anticipated buildings.

The principal of Birmingham Conservatoire toured the brewery to discuss brewing a bespoke bottled beer for the Birmingham Conservatoire’s new £57m home, which opens in September.

Lloyd Webber plans to serve the bespoke bottled beer from Wye Valley, as well as a cask ale, in the bar of the new building.

The internationally renowned cellist and conductor will be returning to brew the bottled beer alongside head brewer Gareth Bateman next month.

Lloyd Webber said: “I am very excited to be brewing a bespoke Wye Valley Brewery beer. It will be a real treat for students and visitors at the Conservatoire to have this popular local brewery create something special for them.”

Part of Birmingham City University, the new home for Birmingham Conservatoire is part of the institution’s £280m investment in its facilities.
