Man arrested after Colmore Row bomb scare

A bomb scare closed Colmore Row on Saturday afternoon before police were able to ascertain the packages were not suspicious.

The area around St Philip’s Cathedral was also sealed off by police cordons as they investigated two bags which were found to not be suspicious. Although the cordon was soon lifted, a 51 year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a bomb hoax.

West Midlands Police said: “We quickly responded to reports of two suspicious bags being left at just before 5pm today (Saturday); with the street and nearby park sealed off as a precaution while checks were carried out.

“The cordons were lifted in just over half an hour and we would like to thank everyone for their co-operation.”
