Engineering group buys software automation company

Vinci Energies has acquired QSI Group

Solihull-based engineering group Vinci Energies has strengthened its presence in the software automation sector by purchasing Teesside-based QSI Group.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, will see QSI’s 15 staff join the Vinci Energies’ 660-strong workforce in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

They will become part of Actemium, Vinci’s industrial engineering division that is one of seven brands it operates.

Actemium has an annual turnover of £25m, with QSI around one-tenth of its size.

Rochdi Ziyat, VINCI Energies’ UK and Republic of Ireland chief executive, said: “One of VINCI Energies’ strategic ambition is to become a major automation player in the UK and today’s announcement follows our acquisition of AND Automation in 2015.

“Our expanded market presence will enable us to respond to the rapidly growing needs of the industrial automation in the UK.”

QSI Group is a multi-skilled software engineering company, specialising in providing control and automation solutions.

It has particular expertise in large chemical, fine chemical and pharmaceutical environments.

Steve Watson, director at QSI Group, believes it is “an exciting opportunity” for the company.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and grow our business with the support of VINCI Energies,” he said.

“We are particularly excited by their business model of maintaining autonomous business units, while supporting them in their development to enable them to progress and grow.”
