Law firm associate named new chairman of Birmingham Future

Victoria Ball

A senior associate at one of the city’s law firms has been confirmed as the new chair of professional services organisation, BPS Birmingham Future.

Victoria Ball, a Senior Associate at Trowers & Hamlins’ Birmingham office, has succeeded Tara Tomes, managing director of PR agency East Village following the completion of her 12-month tenure.

Ms Ball, who was took on the role at a ceremony at Hotel du Vin, has worked for Trowers & Hamlins since 2015 and is a member of the firm’s Projects and Construction team.

She has served as Deputy Chair of Birmingham Future and, since returning to the city to work, has also served on a committee at the Birmingham Law Society and until last month, was a Trustee of Birmingham Citizen’s Advice Bureau.

Katie Fulcher, who is Executive Officer for Key Sectors at the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, will become the organisation’s Deputy Chair.

Ms Fulcher has previously served on Birmingham Future’s Development Committee.

At the event, members will have the opportunity to hear from outgoing chair Tara Tomes, who will reflect on her year and from Victoria who will lay out her ambitions and goals for the next twelve months.

Ms Ball has said one of her priorities during her term of office would be to make the organisation more relevant and not just another networking body.

She said she felt strongly that Birmingham Future should collaborate with all organisations which have the prosperity and wellbeing of its younger workforce at its core and work hard to retain talent within the city.

She said: “If we are to truly succeed in the constant fight to retain talent, which is not a new problem, we need to collaborate with like-minded organisations by talking to and working with other organisations that are already doing great things to promote our region.

“By working with these organisations, including a number of the large corporate employers working hard to retain talent, we can have an even bigger impact. If there is a word that sums up my approach to the next year it is collaboration.

In her outgoing address, Ms Tomes said the organisation had striven hard to increase its engagement in schools, through Professional Services Week, as well as furthering a partnership with the Careers & Enterprise Company and engaging with future leaders through its Leadership Development Programme.
