Traffic Alert: 90-minute delays to M6 following serious accident

Motorists using the M6 north of Birmingham have been warned of delays of up to 90 minutes following an accident between a lorry and a car.

Two lanes of the motorway in the section between Junction 9 (Wednesbury) and 10 (Walsall/Wolverhampton) and delays are stretching back to Junction 6 (A38/Birmingham city centre).

There are also long tailbacks on the M5 north from Junction 2 (Oldbury), compounding the existing delays on that stretch due to long-term roadworks.

Highways England has said normal traffic conditions are not expected to return until after 7pm and drivers have been advised to avoid the area if possible or to consider using alternative routes such as the M6 Toll.
