Birmingham’s most decadent cookie – yours for £23 a time

Birmingham’s most indulgent cookie has gone on sale at one of the city’s big name department stores.
The sweet treat from Monkey Cookies is one of the more unusual products occupying shelf space at Selfridges in the Bullring; not least because of its £23 price tag.
Hand-made and decorated, each of the chocolate-chip cookies is topped with Hershey’s chocolate that is draped in a 23-carat gold sheet and sprinkled with gold flakes.
Monkey Cookies started in 2012, when Abdullah Al Ansari began baking in his kitchen in Kuwait. In just five years, the operation has grown and is now sold in more than 60 locations all over the Gulf and in Selfridges Birmingham and London.
The basic Monkey Cookies range was first introduced to Selfridges’ food hall earlier this year. The core range of cookies are filled with Kinder chocolate, Nutella, Cookies n Creme, Hershey pieces and soft marshmallow.
With the lucrative Christmas market in mind, it has now gone a stage further by launching the decadent gold treats.
A Monkey Cookies spokesman said: “We’re very excited to be introducing our luxury gold-infused cookie exclusively in Selfridges.
“Since we began stocking our cookies, we’ve already built up a loyal following and are looking forward to people enjoying our latest innovation.”
Selfridges Birmingham general manager Sam Watts said: “Our discerning customers love unexpected products and innovative ranges so we are thrilled to be the only stockist of the 23-carat gold cookie. It’s a real treat for any cookie lover.”
The cookies can be bought individually or be included as part of a 15-cookie tin selection.
