A West Midlands logistics business has launched a recruitment drive as it looks sustain a long-term growth strategy.

Minworth-based Europa Worldwide is attending a jobs fair at Birmingham’s Council House today (Friday) as part of a wider recruitment drive across the company’s 11 UK sites.

The additional staff are needed as a result of unprecedented growth in the business over the past 12 months.

Europa’s base at Prologis Park is the company’s second largest UK site. It currently employs 130 people at its 16,000 sq ft warehouse. It is also the only Europa site to accommodate branches of all of the company’s Road, Warehouse, Air, Sea and Showfreight divisions.

The expansion will support existing accounts and Europa’s goal of becoming the leading logistics operator between the UK and Europe by 2018.

Exhibiting alongside Tesco, HSBC, Virgin, Vauxhall and Apple, Europa is scouting for the rising stars of the logistics industry to boost its Warehouse, Sea and Road operations in the Midlands.

Mark Chopping, Internal Search and Talent Acquisition Manager at Europa, said: “Our Birmingham branch has a brilliant work environment and its sales department is booming. Our Sea division, which is based at Birmingham, has a number of new customers, so we need to support this growth by building the team by 50% and with Christmas around the corner, our Warehouse will also need additional staff.”

Vanita Dass-Puri, who fulfils a similar role at the group, added: “Birmingham is one of our most important targets for recruiting experienced warehouse, office and sales staff as well as attracting new rising stars in the industry.”

Europa has grown the workforce across its 11 sites by more than 150 people in the past three years.

In that time, the business has opened two new sites in Nottingham and Wakefield and relocated its teams in Manchester, Glasgow, Nottingham and Dartford to new, larger premises.

Carl Potter, the group’s HR and facilities director, said: “It’s our ambition to become the leading logistics operator between the UK and Europe by 2018 and in order to do this, we need to build our team and grow our knowledge-base.

“Birmingham is a key site for us, as it is home to one of our largest warehouses, as well as road and sea teams, so this event is a brilliant opportunity to expand our footprint in the Midlands.”
