West Midlands firms chosen to showcase British technology to US consumers

Two West Midlands businesses have been featured in a high-profile e-commerce campaign to showcase the best of British technology to US consumers.

Sutton Coldfield-based technology and gaming retailer Box Ltd, together with Birmingham online electronics store Bleepbox are hosting their products on marketplace giant Newegg, the leading tech-focused e-retailer in North America.

Founded in 2001, Newegg has 32 million registered users globally. The Department for International Trade (DIT) has partnered with Newegg, as part of its E-exporting programme, designed to help UK firms access the US market.

Ian Harrison, Director of Exports, Department for International Trade, Midlands, said: “Online marketplaces make it easier for small businesses in the West Midlands to sell their goods and services across the globe. This campaign is a brilliant platform to help companies attract new consumers and grow their business.

“There is huge demand for British products across the world. Our key role in the Department is to support businesses on their exporting journey through helping firms to navigate any barriers so they can successfully expand into international markets.”

Richard Evans, Director of Bleepbox, said: “The support we’ve received from DIT has helped demonstrate the additional revenue growth opportunities that selling our goods and services abroad can bring, and helped us to better understand and navigate some of the challenges which come hand-in-hand with exporting, such as payment risks and tackling competitive markets overseas.

“As part of the programme we have also received guidance around managing working capital, credit insurance and bank guarantees. We anticipate a positive uplift in sales as a result of participating in the campaign in the coming months.”

DIT’s E-exporting programme helps UK businesses to accelerate their global growth via e-commerce. As well as delivering campaigns with online marketplaces to raise awareness of UK products, the programme also provides access to the Selling Online Overseas Tool, a free-to-use service that allows businesses to click, connect, prepare and sell on global marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Tmall and Newegg. The tool provides access to discounts and benefits, including waived commissions and special marketing packages.
