Traffic Alert: Long delays as M6 closed following accident

Motorists using the M6 in Staffordshire have been warned of long delays following an earlier accident.

The motorway is closed southbound only between junctions 14 (Stafford North) and 13 (Stafford).

Highways England has said it does not expect the road to clear until at least lunchtime, while the southbound entry sliproad at Junction 14 may remain closed until at least 2pm.

Traffic is currently queuing back over four miles to Junction 15 (Stoke) and delays of around an hour are already being forecast.

Traffic approaching the closure at junction 14 is being diverted off the motorway to join the A34 eastbound, then drivers have been told to follow the hollow black square diversion symbol.

The diversion continues on to the A449 southbound through Stafford, towards junction 13 where they can rejoin the motorway.
