A Midlands construction group is targeting fresh growth as it looks to build on record turnover.

Speller Metcalfe revealed a record turnover in excess of £141m – up 20% on 2016’s performance. Pre-tax profit rose 73%.

The company, which is headquartered in Malvern and works from offices in Gloucester, London and Wolverhampton also benefited from a record order book, which it said offered the opportunity of further controlled growth through 2018-2020.

Des O’Neill, managing director, Speller Metcalfe Group, said: “Our increasingly healthy forward workload represents the high levels of confidence our clients have in Speller Metcalfe’s ability to deliver the very best results.

“Last year was undoubtedly a difficult one for the construction industry and we have been working hard to streamline our processes and improve practices across the group to be able to best meet our clients’ needs and to bolster and protect our position as one of the UK’s leading contractors.”

The company was also successful in securing framework appointments, which have the potential to open doors to billions of pounds worth of potential works, including places on Homes England’s (formerly Homes & Communities Agency) DPP3, Private Investment Consortium, LHC Schools and Community Buildings and the Education and Skills Funding Agency.
