Dance studio leaps ahead with LoveBrum funding

Members of a dance group run by charity The Spearhead Trust are jumping for joy after being awarded £2,000 by LoveBrum after winning the monthly members’ vote.

The Spearhead Trust at Bells Farmhouse was started in 2009 with the purpose of serving its local community.

The Trust is solely volunteer-led and has a pioneering approach to community engagement by offering a range of projects at Bells Farmhouse for local residents.

One of the projects operated from the farmhouse is Bellagio Dance Studios – a dance group that has been operating for 18 months.

Currently, around 100 children attend the dance group, with classes taking place five times a week. To ensure that as many local children as possible can afford to attend the dance classes, only a very small class fee is charged, with many dance teachers volunteering their time.

The money from LoveBrum will be spent on supporting the growing needs of Bellagio Dance Studios, and helping to make the hall where the studio holds their classes fit for purpose.

The work of other projects highlighted included Leon’s Therpeutic Art Group, which began around seven years ago with the aim of helping people suffering from addiction.

The group also helps people going through detox or rehabilitation by giving them a different focus and a sense of structure.

Birmingham Museums Trust was also a runner up for the monthly grant. An independent charity promoting Birmingham’s museums and galleries along with their outreach programmes and research.  They want everyone – residents and visitors of Birmingham – to appreciate and enjoy the arts, history, science and technology the city has to offer.
