Worcestershire launches house building initiative

Worcestershire County Council is inviting local developers to an event at which it will explain its plans to deliver new housing, which will help to create local job opportunities and drive economic regeneration.

The Council wants to build small to medium sized housing on surplus local authority owned land via a potential joint venture with local developers.

Developers across Worcestershire will be invited to attend the event, at which they can learn more about the details of the plan and offer their views on the scheme.

Janette Becket, strategic property manager at Worcestershire County Council said: “Our engagement event will outline the proposals and also give developers the chance to have their input.”

The aim is to deliver much needed new housing by working with local companies and thereby creating more local employment.

Becket added: ” As well as local developers providing local housing, the aim were suitable, is to provide specialist housing to meet WCC corporate responsibilities, and maximise returns in the disposal of surplus land. Through a procurement process we hope to build a panel of local developers which we know have the capability to deliver small to medium-sized housing schemes that we can approach about developing groups of sites.”

Worcestershire County Council has engaged the property agents, Fisher German, to work with them in developing the plan.

Rob Champion of Fisher German said: “This is a excellent opportunity for developers across the Worcestershire area which will ultimately lead to more housing being delivered locally, thereby strengthening businesses and creating more job opportunities for local people. We will be working with the Council to help them engage with the market and shape the proposals as they are developed.”
