Work starts on improvements to major city junction

City of Wolverhampton Council has started work to improve pedestrian safety at a major city junction.
Traffic signals at the junction of Stafford Street and Cannock Road (A0151) are to be upgraded and there will also be changes to the layout.
The work will continue for six to eight weeks – taking place throughout the summer holidays to reduce traffic disruption.
The use of any temporary traffic signals, lane closures or road closures during the scheme will take place during weekday off-peak hours (9.30am to 3.30pm) and on some weekends.
The scheme includes:
Replacement of the existing traffic signal equipment with new extra low voltage and LED Lights
Widening of the existing traffic island on Cannock Road approach
New footway in the existing central reservation along Stafford Road
Resurfacing footways near the junction to replace existing flagstones with a tarmac surface
City of Wolverhampton cabinet member for city environment, Cllr Steve Evans, said: “The age of the existing traffic signal equipment means it needs replacing. It makes sense for us to take this opportunity to improve the facilities at the junction to support the wider regeneration of the local area and improve pedestrian routes and safety.”
