Friday Funnies: Pet rescue down Worcestershire way

BLOGGER and gossipmonger John Duckers reveals how an old friend is branching out her career into pet rescue.

I HEAR old chum Beverley Nielsen – once head of West Midlands CBI when regionally it was a much more exciting organisation than it is today – has turned pet rescuer.

Something to do with her Jack Russell dogs, Tiger and Wellington.
It seems Tiger ran after a fox and was posted AWOL, eventually discovered stuck down a badger hole.

Well, apparently you can’t just tug the thing out in such circumstances; you first need the bureaucratic permission of the likes of Natural England, the RSPCA et al. Took nearly 24 hours.

Anyway our brave girl eventually gets on hands and knees – very unladylike – and starts trying to free the beast.

And after working the hole a bit wider she manages to save the animal. Hurrah!
Get her on the television – the new David Attenborough.

Much more exciting than her director of employee engagement role at Birmingham City University. Also a Worcestershire county councillor.

A bit of an amateur dramatic buff too (well, always something of a drama queen!), it seems she is waiting for the lead role this spring in local panto Star Wrek (get it?).

“I am still contemplating whether to take part,” says the prima donna.

Apparently, like getting engaged, you have to be asked first.
