School payments entrepreneur wins major award

Clint Wilson, CEO of ParentPay

The chief executive of online school payments business ParentPay won a major entrepreneurship award after his business passed the £1bn mark for the first time.

Clint Wilson was named Scale Up winner at the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2018 UK awards last night in London.

Coventry-based ParentPay provides a platform for parents to pay schools for all of their child’s school items, including meals, trips, clubs and uniform. It simplifies administration for schools, saving time and reducing costs, while also helping to “keep children safe”.

“The early years were difficult – we remortgaged the house and then remortgaged it again,” said Wilson.

“This year we will collect £1bn, that’s £1bn that isn’t being carried in children’s pockets.”

Neil Meredith, Partner and Midlands Entrepreneur Of The Year Leader at EY, added: “Clint has demonstrated unwavering entrepreneurial spirit, combining clear strategic vision with his experience as a fintech entrepreneur, leading ParentPay to become one of the fastest growing tech companies in the UK.”

The overall winners at EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year awards were Mohsin and Zuber Issa, the North West-based brothers behind forecourt operator Euro Garages which now employs 20,000 people.
