Europe’s largest independent IT group SCC, based in Birmingham, has acquired a significant stake in visual communications firm avsnet.

The deal for the Leatherhead-based company, which employs 60 staff, underlines SCC’s ambition to be a significant player in the visual communications and collaboration market.

The move will merge SCC’s long-standing audio visual (AV) business with avsnet’s specialisations to form ‘SCC AVS’.

SCC’s chief executive, James Rigby, who is shortlisted in the BusinessDesk.com’s Leadership Awards taking place next week, said: “I am delighted to welcome everyone at avsnet to the group. SCC AVS is an exciting development in a growing sector and this further expands our capabilities and builds on our continued growth and success.”

With the acquisition complete, SCC AVS now plans to develop services further, leveraging the group’s scale, contacts and IT expertise to power continued progression.”

Mike Swain, SCC services managing director, said: “SCC has had an enviable reputation as an IT solutions provider for over 40 years. Now with the accelerated convergence of IT and visual communications this acquisition significantly enhances our existing audio-visual capabilities, creating a market leading entity that addresses business requirements for the integration of visual communications and collaborative solutions with industry-leading security, network and cloud services.”

SCC AVS will provide a complete portfolio of services from audio visual design through supply, installation, commissioning and programming as well as video conferencing and collaborative solutions including cloud based and as-a-service models.

Managing director and founder of avsnet, Graham Fry, said:“This represents a huge opportunity for us and I am proud of my entire team for their ongoing hard work and commitment to the company and our customers. With SCC’s backing we can now enhance our collaborative portfolio and expand the scale of our services to meet the needs of enterprise customers.”

Fry will continue as managing director for the new SCC AVS business while retaining an equity stake in the business.
