Bypass plans get £54m boost

Plans for Shrewsbury’s North West relief road have been given a major boost after securing £54m of Government funding.
Steve Davenport, cabinet member for highways at Shropshire Council, said the bypass would make a “huge difference” to people in the town and outlying villages.
“It has been on the cards for 40 years,” he told BBC News.
“But a lot of lobbying in the last 18 months has paid off.”
The announcement follows a meeting between the town’s Tory MP Daniel Kawczynski and Transport Secretary Chris Grayling on Monday.
The total cost of the scheme is expected to be around £75m.
