People: Senior hire for law firm; Appointments for Cushman & Wakefield’s rating team; and more

Law firm Harper James Solicitors has boosted its growing national team with the appointment of commercial solicitor Edward Kilner.

Kilner takes on his new position at Harper James having spent four years at Harrison Clark Rickerbys, bringing with him a wealth of experience working on technology, intellectual property and commercial matters.

He joins the Harper James Birmingham team with immediate effect and will work across all aspects of commercial law, advising on, drafting and negotiating a broad range of business-to-business contracts, specifically including technology licensing, outsourcing, brand licensing and rights enforcement, and distribution agreements.

Dan Taylor

Cushman & Wakefield has made two senior appointments to its UK rating team.

Dan Taylor joins as partner and head of Birmingham rating while Mike Smith also joins the team as an associate.

Taylor joins from Lambert Smith Hampton where he spent 11 years latterly as director in the rating team. He was responsible for advising occupiers and landlords on their rates liabilities, managing key national clients and developing new business. He has experience in advising on properties ranging from shops and offices to schools and health centres.

In his new role, he will be leading the account management of some of Cushman & Wakefield’s key rating clients as well as growing the service line.

Smith joins Cushman & Wakefield from the Valuation Office Agency where he was lead valuer and team leader. He has 36 years’ experience in valuing retail, office and industrial properties.

The AC Hotel by Marriott Birmingham, which is managed by Valor Hospitality Europe, has recruited Simon Barratt as general manager.

In his new role, Barratt says he aims to drive sales and encourage team engagement as well as guest satisfaction.

He said: “The AC brand is fairly new to the UK so it’s exciting to be part of it and I look forward to playing a part in the continued success of the hotel.”
