The organising committee for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022 is to accelerate its recruitment after confirming its plans to launch its headquarters in Brindley Place within weeks.

The team, which now consists of 31 people, has plans to expand to more than 1,000. Venue Cluster Manager and a Head of Media are among the roles already being recruited for.

The committee has now confirmed what TheBusinessDesk.com revealed 10 days ago – that it has agreed a lease at One Brindleyplace for 72,261 sq ft.

The five floor office will accommodate their growing workforce ahead of the Games. The Commonwealth Games will be held from 2 July to 7 August 2022, with the office lease running until December 2022.

Ian Reid, chief executive officer of Birmingham 2022, said: “I’m delighted that we have finalised arrangements for our new headquarters and we’re excited about moving in very soon. The new office is in a great location for us, in the heart of Brindley Place and very close to Birmingham city centre.

“It’s even just a few minutes’ walk from one of our official venues – Arena Birmingham – so that will certainly help to focus our minds every day.

“We’ve had a strong recruitment drive in recent weeks and the team has tripled in size since the end of last year, so we’re looking forward to having more space.”
