Risk management firm swoops for £10m-turnover consultancy

The SOCOTEC Group, the £100m-turnover Burton risk management firm, has bought Butler & Young Group, the building control and fire consultancy services company.
The Butler & Young Group is the umbrella company for Butler & Young Approved Inspectors, Trenton Fire and Butler & Young Consultants a leading specialist in built environment consultancy.
The company has turnover of £10m and 15 offices throughout the UK employing 175 people.
Ian Sparks, chief executive of SOCOTEC UK, says: “We are very pleased to enter the world of building control and fire consultancy services with the acquisition of the Butler & Young Group. Building control and fire consultancy services will become the fourth leg to our UK business, alongside Infrastructure, Labs and Analytical and Environment & Safety.
“The UK market is consolidating and offering room for innovation thanks to digitalisation and BIM. Against this backdrop, we aim to boost activity. The combination of Butler & Young Group’s longstanding expertise and our strong sales drive in the UK should provide us with the right platform for rapid growth.”
