Weekender: Renowned author signs up to literary festival

The Stratford Literary Festival is to welcome one of the UK’s most successful writers and screen writers for a special one-off summer event.

David Nicholls, multi-million selling author of One Day – made into a successful film starring Anne Hathaway – as well as Us and Started for Ten, will be appearing at the Levi Fox Hall on Friday 19 July at 7pm to talk about his new book.

Titled Sweet Sorrow, it is about first love set over one life-changing summer against a back drop of rehearsals for a production of Romeo and Juliet.

Nicholls, who was awarded a BAFTA this year for his screenplay of the drama Patrick Melrose, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, will be sharing the background to this new novel which brings teenage angst and the clumsiness of first romance beautifully to life.

Tickets are £10, or £25 including admission to the event and one discounted copy of the book. Student tickets are £8. Tickets can be booked by calling 0333 666 3366 or online at ticketsource.co.uk/stratford-literary-festival

This one-off event follows the best-selling spring festival and is ahead of the Festivals Winter Weekend which runs from 1-3 November at Stratford Play house, with the line-up being revealed in August.
