Weekender: Star Wars toy exhibition opens at city museum

May The Toys Be With You exhibition opens tomorrow at Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum featuring one of the UK’s finest collections of vintage Star Wars toys and original cinema posters.

The touring exhibition has broken visitor attendance records at a host of museums around the country, and this will be its first time in the West Midlands.

May The Toys Be With You  is both a celebration of the now highly collectible vintage toy line and also of the iconic design work and art of the Star Wars movies.

From X-Wing Fighters to lightsabers, the designs have fired people’s imaginations and stamped their place on our cultural landscape.

“For little kids and ‘big kids’ alike this is an unmissable opportunity to view many rarely seen Star Wars treasures, and young Jedi will even have an opportunity to dress up and wield a lightsaber themselves,” said the museum.

At 10.30am on Saturday visitors to the Art Gallery & Museum will be welcomed by a guard of Stormtroopers. The official opening will be performed by the Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Allah Ditta, at 12pm.

There will also be hands-on activities in the exhibition including a Millennium Falcon cockpit activity base, a Death Star reading and soft play and digital guides and sensory activity bags.

May The Toys Be With You is free and open Monday-Saturday 10.30am-4.30pm and runs until 14 September.
