Pub group maintains strong sales growth

Birmingham-based pub group Mitchells & Butlers said it has “continued to outperform the market” as it maintains strong sales growth over the summer holiday period.
Like-for-like sales were up 3.3% in the eight weeks to September 21, only slightly behind the 3.6% growth for the previous 43 weeks.
It expects its operating profit margin to be “at a similar level to last year”.
The group operates 1,800 pubs under more than a dozen brands, including Harvester, Toby Carvery, All Bar One and Miller & Carter.
It has opened seven sites in this financial year and completed 239 conversions and remodels.
Phil Urban, chief executive of Mitchells & Butlers, said: “Sales growth has remained consistently ahead of the market and we carry this momentum forward into the new financial year. We remain confident of the impact of our Ignite initiatives which will be continually reviewed and refreshed as the business moves forward.”
Ignite is its improvement programme which is focused on three themes – building a more balanced business, instilling a more commercial culture, and driving an innovation agenda.
