Developer marks topping out at Coventry development

A 462-bed student accommodation development on Gulson Road has reached a further milestone ahead of its opening to students in Coventry next year.

A topping out ceremony has been held by developer Gilltown and construction company Robertson to celebrate reaching the highest point of the project. The development will be called Gulson Gardens once completed.

The eight-storey development will include studio and cluster bedrooms, some with ensuite facilities, alongside other amenities such as shared study areas, common room, gym, staff management suite and laundry.

The area surrounding Gulson Road is dominated by Coventry University buildings, including the engineering and computing building, library and multi-storey staff car park.

Alongside the new accommodation will be courtyards, disabled parking spaces, cycle spaces, drop off and collection area and a separately-accessed service area outside the building.

Ten rooms have been identified to allow for easy adaptation to meet accessible requirements by future residents when needed.

James Gillespie, of Gilltown, said: “We’re making great progress on this high-quality student accommodation development. It’s brilliant to see Gulson Gardens reaching its potential – it’s a superb location for students and I’m sure the first cohort of residents next year will be really pleased with their new homes.”

Paul Turner, managing director of Robertson Yorkshire and East Midlands, said: “For every student accommodation project we complete, our goal is to provide the best standard of living so students can focus on what’s really important – their education and enjoying their student lifestyle. It’s great to reach this milestone, and our team on site will remain laser-focused until we complete on the project.”
