Investment sees haulage firm launch waste management division

A Black Country haulage firm is launching a new waste management business, a move which has safeguarded 30 jobs.

DE O’Reilly, based in Aldridge, has used the sizable, six-figure funding package to acquire a site for its new venture, which will collect and dispose of waste for homes and businesses in the area.

DE O’Reilly Waste Management will provide 550 household and construction skips to its customers and other local groups.

The family-owned firm said cardboard, plastic and polythene will be sorted so that it can be re-used, while the remaining waste will be used for biofuel. The business expects to produce 2,500 tonnes of biofuel in the first year, which will be sold to other local organisations to provide another income stream for the business.

The funding, which forms part of Lloyds Bank’s commitment to lending £2.5bn to Midlands businesses during 2019, has helped to safeguard the jobs of the 30 existing employees at the newly-acquired site.

Gareth Bromley, operations director at DE O’Reilly, said: “Waste management is a key requirement of many of our haulage customers, making our latest investment a natural expansion for the business. It also gives us an opportunity to reduce waste and create a more sustainable local economy, all while creating jobs.

“Lloyds Bank has been by our side throughout the process. They really understand the intricacies of our business and have provided the knowledge and support we need to achieve our growth ambitions.”

Rebecca Blaymires, associate director business development at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “Sustainability is becoming an increasing priority for businesses, and DE O’Reilly’s new venture will help to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly waste management solutions. We’re pleased to support initiatives like this as part of our commitment to helping Britain prosper.”
