People: Triple hire for accountancy firm; Legal experts in family and residential property join Thursfields; and more

Haines Watts’ Worcester office has welcomed three new members of staff to meet growing demand from clients.

Senior tax manager Jonathan New is joined by payroll assistant Jane Marson and accounts trainee Michael Lewis.

New, who has moved to Worcester following spells with an accountancy firm in London and a Birmingham-based law firm, specialises in tax advisory work relating to company restructures or incorporations and reviewing the tax computations of large companies and groups.

After initially working in the hospitality industry to fit round family commitments, Mrs Marson retrained as an accountant. She joins Haines Watts from the British Chambers of Commerce’s accounts and bookkeeping department.

Lewis, who is currently working towards his AAT Level 3 qualification, will be focusing on delivering cloud-based accounting services.

Haines Watts Worcester managing partner Tim Pearce said: “I’m delighted to welcome Jonathan, Jane and Michael.

“It is vital that we invest in great people to work with our current and prospective clients and these appointments are part of our commitment to continue to grow and strengthen the quality within the team.”

A specialist in family law and children issues and a former legal ombudsman for residential property have been recruited to join Thursfields Solicitors’ team in the Black Country.

Sandeep Sandhu, who has practised in all areas of family law since 2006, has been appointed as an associate solicitor in the law firm’s Sedgley office.

Meanwhile Darren Cox, who has spent the last seven years handling and deciding the outcome of residential property complaints for the Legal Ombudsman, has been appointed as an associate solicitor in the same Sedgley office.

Sandhu, who is originally from Leeds and moved to the West Midlands last year, also has an interest in assisting grandparents with contact issues, and she regularly advises clients with Islamic or foreign marriages who are divorcing.

She said: “I’ve only heard good things about the multi award-winning Thursfields. I’ve been particularly impressed with its recent growth and how it’s managed to keep its integrity and still provide excellent customer care, which is very important to me.
“I am excited to be based in Sedgley and look forward to establishing links with local and surrounding communities.”

Sandhu is a committee member for the Midlands Asian Lawyers Association, a non-profit organisation that promotes equality and diversity in the legal profession.

She’s also a member of Resolution, a community of family lawyers who believe that a non-confrontational approach produces better outcomes for separating families and their children.

Cox qualified as a solicitor in 2007 after studying law at the University of Wolverhampton. He was an Ombudsman for a number of years dealing with complaints about property transactions. In his capacity as an Ombudsman he has regularly appeared on BBC regional and national radio as an expert to advise on residential property issues.
