Hour-long delays as M6 closed near Birmingham

The M6 is currently closed near Birmingham from J5 to J6 northbound with delays of at least an hour covering several miles on the approach to J5 .

The full road closure is due to an “incident”, says Highways England.

A statement by the agency said: “For traffic approaching the closure locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and may potentially have to re-route your journey.

“If travelling towards this area from much farther afield, you may wish to change your strategic route, allow extra travel time and follow guidance from our on-road variable message signs and media.

“Diversion route details and guidance is as follows;

“Diversion symbol : Hollow Circle

“Exit the M6 at J5 and take the exit to the A452 north Chester Road , At the jct with the A47 take the exit to the A47 westbound Fort Parkway, Continue along Fort Parkway/Heartlands Parkway to the jct with the B4137, Cuckoo road, take the B4137 west to its jct with the A5127 Lichfield Road , take the A5127 north towards Salford Circus , at Salford Circus take the M6 North.”
