£150m skyscraper gets green light

The scheme would dominate the city skyline

Plans for one of the UK’s tallest skyscrapers outside of London, to be built in Birmingham, have been given the go-ahead at Birmingham City Council Planning Committee.

City design officers at Birmingham City Council commended the Glancy Nicholls’designed 100 Broad Street for being an “architectural statement building which would positively contribute to the city’s skyline on a strategically prominent site within the city centre”.

Yardley-based Europe Property Investment will now look to build the £150m scheme at 100 Broad Street in a move which will bring forward 503 apartments created and include a sky lounge bar and restaurant on the top floor, a gym, games room and cinema.

The proposals also include two ground floor retail units with a total of 5,500 sq ft of space.
