People: Law firm makes string of senior promotions; New chairman for container manufacturer; and more

A Midlands law firm has recruited a raft of new team members and made several senior promotions.

Leamington-based Wright Hassall has appointed two partners, made five promotions to associate level, and two to senior associate roles.

Katie Alsop, who started at Wright Hassall 16 years ago as a paralegal, has been promoted to partner alongside Caroline Benfield who joined as a senior associate in 2016.

Other senior appointments have seen Laura Abbott, who specialises in contentious probates, and Gemma Rogers, of the commercial real estate team, being promoted to senior associates.

At associate level, five new appointments have been made including Rebecca Mushing, a specialist planning lawyer who started as a paralegal at the firm in 2006, commercial real estate solicitor Bhavika Mistry and Kalpesh Patel, legal manager of the debt recovery team.

Myles Bennett, a solicitor in the banking and project finance team, and Rachael Flanagan, who specialises in personal injury and medical negligence claims and has been at the company for over nine years, have also been promoted to associates.

Alongside the internal promotions, several new senior appointments have been made for the start of the year, with Jody Evans taking on a new role at the company as director of risk and compliance.

She is starting her role alongside Emma Adams, who joined the development team as partner last autumn, Elizabeth Taylor, who has been appointed as an insolvency consultant and Lindsay Barnett, the HR director for the company.

Sarah Perry, managing partner at Wright Hassall said: “For the start of 2020, we have made a significant number of internal promotions and new appointments to the Wright Hassall team to ensure a strong start to the year.

“The new promotions to partner, senior associate and associate level are all well-deserved following a very successful 2019, and we are confident that these changes will help us maintain our place as a leading Midlands firm.

“I would personally like to wish all our new joiners and promotions the best of luck in their new roles.”

New Egbert Taylor Chairman, Mike Molesworth, will work with Egbert Taylor’s CEO, Brendan Murphy

Worcester container manufacturer Egbert Taylor has appointed longstanding waste industry specialist and former Dennis Eagle CEO, Mike Molesworth, as chairman.

The move supports the firm’s ambitious growth plans and is expected to help reaffirm Egbert Taylor’s position as the UK’s primary producer of premium steel containers.

Molesworth led Dennis Eagle’s growth trajectory from 2000 to 2013. This included a period where he headed up Ros Roca Environment’s European business, which purchased Dennis Eagle in 2006. From 2013 until retiring in the middle of last year, he was on the group board and latterly Terberg Ros Roca Group’s management board following a merger in 2016.

He began the role of chairman at Egbert Taylor last month after a nine-month period as non-executive director.

He said: “The current management team has done a fantastic job of installing a platform for growth, particularly with regards to its export business. However, there is a wealth of opportunities for the business to reinvigorate itself, strengthen its position both in the short and long-term and accelerate growth at home and abroad. It’s an exciting time for Egbert Taylor and I’m delighted to be part of it.”

Brendan Murphy, Egbert Taylor’s CEO, adds: “Mike’s appointment represents a real win for the business. Not only will he ensure that Egbert Taylor is operating as efficiently as possible and play a vital role in identifying new opportunities, but as a key interface between the business and its investors, Mike will help ensure that our growth strategy remains on course and that we continue to build on our reputation as a best of British manufacturer.”
