Vandal-hit historic school bought in £400,000 deal

A former primary school and nursery which had stood empty for two years and become a target for thieves and vandals is to be brought back into use.

The Diocese of Birmingham brought the former Sacred Heart School in Victoria Road, Tipton, to market in October and it has now been sold for £400,000.

Leamington-based commercial property firm ehB Reeves was commissioned to market the 4,674 sq. ft. building, which sits on a 0.56-acre plot and dates back to the 1920s.

ehB generated 12 separate offers for the freehold via an informal tender process and the buyer, whose identity is not being released for commercial reasons, plans to reopen it as a school.

The building will need renovation before it reopens due to damage caused by vandals and lead being stolen from the roof.

Simon Hain, director of ehB Reeves, said: “We are delighted to have been able to help the Diocese find a buyer and just as pleased to reveal that it will continue as a school.

“The building was purpose-built with education in mind and it’s terrific that it will soon be restored, renovated and resume teaching children in the area once again.

“The school is in a fabulous spot on a large site and over-looking Tipton’s Victoria Park so it does have almost everything you could wish for in a school.”
