People: Partner hire for professional services firm; St. Modwen recruits senior asset manager; and more

Financial and professional services firm Smith & Williamson has continued to grow its Birmingham office with the appointment of partner David Yewdall.

He joins Smith & Williamson as a partner in the employment tax and Incentives team, having joined from the Birmingham office of PwC.

He is the latest in a series of new appointments at Smith & Williamson in Birmingham.

Krista Woodman recently joined as director of private client tax services in a year which saw Stephen Drew appointed professional services managing partner and fellow partner Matt Watts become head of Birmingham business tax services.

Yewdall’s core specialism involves handling international employment tax matters in various jurisdictions, as well as UK domestic employer compliance issues.

Having worked with a range of corporate clients across all sectors, ranging from entrepreneurial and owner managed businesses to listed companies, he has extensive experience in successfully managing a number of global mobility programmes, advising clients on the various tax and social security planning opportunities surrounding the movement of their people on an international scale.

He said: “I was very impressed with Smith & Williamson’s tax offering and I’m really excited to be strengthening the team of experts in Birmingham at such an exciting time of growth, both in terms of the office as a whole and also in terms of further strengthening the service we offer our large corporate clients across the UK on global mobility, employment taxes and people incentives in particular.”

St. Modwen Industrial & Logistics has strengthened its team in appointing a new senior asset manager to work across its I&L portfolio.

Stuart Evans, who has more than 20 years’ experience in managing real estate portfolios, joins the developer’s dedicated industrial and logistics business unit from international manufacturer IMI and will be based from St. Modwen’s Longbridge, Birmingham headquarters.

Evans has previously managed an extensive national and global portfolio specialising in industrial properties and officing. With more than 20 years’ experience as a chartered engineer, initially specialising in site services and manufacturing operations, Evans then transitioned into property, overseeing engineering and real estate projects on a global scale.

In his new role, Evans will work across St. Modwen’s industrial and logistics portfolio, attracting and retaining occupiers at some of the developer’s key schemes; including Watling Street Business Park (Cannock), Bestwood Business Park (Nottingham), Warth Industrial Park (Bury), Moorgate Point (Knowsley) and St. Modwen Park Speke (Liverpool).

Evans said: “I hope my familiarity with leasing high-quality industrial schemes will allow us to retain and secure some class-leading occupiers. St. Modwen’s dedicated business unit is delivering at pace, so it’s essential that the asset management team continues to add to an already impressive portfolio of customers.”

Evesham-based luxury hotel The Wood Norton has announced the appointment of its new operations manager and weddings manager.

Paige Yates, originally joined the independent hotel two years ago as part of the reception team. Her promotion to operations manager follows a successful nine years in the hospitality industry.

Georgie Lole, works alongside Yates as The Wood Norton’s new weddings manager, overseeing the management and day-to-day running of the venue’s some 70 plus weddings per year.

Steve Sweeney, general manager at The Wood Norton, said: “Paige and Georgie are both extremely talented and valued members of staff and it was our pleasure to offer them the roles of operations manager and weddings manager at The Wood Norton. Their hard work and unique talents are widely recognised, and I look forward to seeing them flourish over the coming months.”

The Wood Norton was originally built for French Royalty in 1897 and later owned by the BBC.
