Student accommodation portfolio sold in £4.7bn deal

A private equity firm has bought a portfolio of West Midlands student schemes as part of a wider deal worth £4.7bn.

US outfit Blackstone has swooped for IQ Student Accommodation, which was owned by Goldman.

In our region, IQ ran facilities in Birmingham at Broderick House, Studios 51 and Penworks House and in Wolverhampton at Fiveways House

IQ was established in 2016 as a £2bn joint venture between Goldman Sachs and the biomedical research charity the Wellcome Trust.

The wider deal will see some 28,000 beds across the UK transfer to Blackstone.
