Demand sees law firm double wills and estates team

An increase in clients needing wills and estates advice has seen Thursfields Solicitors nearly doubling its team working on this sector in Worcester in the last year.

The wills and estates team based at the firm’s offices at The Tything in the city centre, has grown to three full-time and two part-time solicitors since the beginning of 2019.

A full-time legal assistant and a new enquiries assistant have also been recruited to help handle the growing volume of work.

Those arriving at Thursfields in Worcester in the last year include associate director Ruth Baker, associate solicitor Sam Thornton, solicitor Cerith Rees, legal assistant Charlotte Dalloway and new enquiries assistant Rachel Linton-Davis.

Ruth Baker, who leads Thursfields’ wills and estates team in Worcester, said: “Even before COVID-19, our office was experiencing a significant increase in the number of new enquiries, which highlights our strong presence in the city.

“This is also reflected in how the wills and estates department has grown across all Thursfields’ office locations in the last 12 months.

“Here in Worcester like in all our locations, we are continuing to service a sharp rise in clients’ needs during the pandemic.

“While our physical offices are currently closed to conform with government restrictions, it’s business as usual for our team and we’ve quickly adapted our working practices to provide full services remotely via secure online and telephone communications.”

Baker joined Thursfields last July after spending seven years at Willans Solicitors in Cheltenham, where she was made a partner in June 2016.
She specialises in wills and estate planning, administration of estates, the creation and administration of trusts, and powers of attorney, focusing on high net-worth clients with complex estates.

Rees, a former professional rugby player who was a fly-half for various clubs in Wales, France and England, also joined Thursfields last July after spending six years at Bridger & Co in Llandovery, where he trained as a solicitor and later became a director.

Rees specialises in wills, estate administration and lasting powers of attorney.

Thornton joined Thursfields in February this year from Mills & Reeve in Birmingham, having previously worked for the tax specialists Meridian Private Client.
