40 jobs to be created as plans for Lidl supermarket get green light

Ashfield Land has secured approval for a Lidl supermarket in Worcester as part of a mixed-use scheme which could create 40 jobs.
The 10-acre site on Droitwich Road is expected to provide more shopping choice for local people and help to safeguard the future of long term tenant JVM Castings with the firm remaining on site in a more efficient layout with better car parking and safer vehicle access.
The scheme will also help JVM to further invest in its existing manufacturing operation and training programme, including apprenticeships.
Robert Birch, director of Ashfield Land’s Birmingham office, said: “This scheme is good news for Worcester and local jobs and it comes at a key moment for the economy. We’re delighted to have worked in partnership with Lidl and JVM to secure the long-term success of this important site in Worcester.”
There will also be investment in the local environment with cycle spaces, electric vehicle charging points and £120,000 (through Section 106 contributions and CIL) towards a new cycle lane along Droitwich Road and improving other local infrastructure.
The scheme had secured strong support for the local community and planning officers at Worcester City Council, before being backed by the council’s planning committee. The application was submitted in November 2019.
