Long delays on M6 after HGV fire

There are delays of well over an hour this morning on the M6 southbound in the West Midlands due to an HGV fire.

According to Highways England, lanes 1, 2 and 3 (of 4) are closed between J7 (near Great Barr) and J6 (for Birmingham). West Midlands Fire Service are en-route to scene and Highways England Traffic Officers are also providing assistance with traffic management.

A statement from the agency said: “Queuing traffic is now approaching J9 (for Wednesbury). We would strongly advise considering alternative routes for your journey this morning and allowing plenty of extra travel time.”
