Housebuilder starts work on redevelopment of industrial estate

Work is about to start on the redevelopment of a Staffordshire industrial estate after it was acquired by a housebuilder.

Elan Homes has just completed the acquisition of a 2.59 acre site on Giggetty Lane, once home to O.J. Wootton Ltd.

The land already benefits from full planning consent and Elan is keen to progress the scheme, which will deliver 32 new homes.

Elan is already building and selling new homes in Staffordshire with developments in Kinver and Loggerheads.

David Summers, regional managing director from Elan Homes (Midlands), said: “Redeveloping redundant brownfield sites and bringing them back into good use is integral to delivering much-needed new homes and addressing the housing shortage. Having grown up in the village, I remember this site as part of the Ounsdale Road Industrial Estate and while plans for housing were first mooted in 2012 and the industrial buildings subsequently demolished, the scheme stalled at various points. Now that Elan has acquired the land we’re pressing ahead and looking forward to starting work on site in September.”

The first homes at the development, known as Wottoonbrook, are expected to be release for sale in early 2021.

There will be 22 private sale homes at Woottonbrook, ranging in size from one to four bedrooms including two maisonettes specifically for over 55s.

In addition to the private sales there will be 10 affordable homes. Five of the properties, two and three-bedroom homes, will be available via shared ownership. The remaining five, each with two bedrooms, will be social rented homes.
