£30m campus extension scheme completes

Warwick Independent Schools Foundation’s £30m relocation and expansion scheme is now complete.

For the first time in the history of Warwick Independent Schools Foundation (WISF), Warwick School, Warwick Junior School, King’s High School and Warwick Preparatory School are now together on one site on Myton Road and Banbury Road as a result of ‘Project One Campus’.

Construction started in 2017 and the project has seen the relocation of King’s High from its previous home in the centre of Warwick to join the foundation’s other schools on one site.

Two new buildings have also been created; a sixth form centre offering shared social and study space for King’s High for girls and Warwick School for boys, and a music school with an auditorium and a range of teaching and practice rooms.

An extension to the existing Bridge Sports Centre has created a new Sports & Technology building, housing a new gymnasium and a range of classrooms and workshops.

Sports facilities across the site for all the schools have been upgraded by the development of a new 3G rugby pitch and new netball/tennis courts.

The masterplan for Project One Campus was developed by Nicholas Hare Architects and construction work completed by Midlands-based building contractor Speller Metcalfe.

Foundation Secretary, Simon Jones, said: “This is a momentous point in our history, and we are grateful for all Speller Metcalfe brought to the project.

“Despite delays caused by the discovery of Roman remains as we started on the main King’s High building, and the COVID-19 lockdown this summer, we were delighted to welcome our pupils back on Thursday 3rd September to a fully finished campus.

“Spellers demonstrated the willingness and flexibility we needed to help us to achieve this successful outcome, and we look forward to watching the new state-of-the-art campus supporting educational excellence for generations of pupils to come.”

Regional director for Speller Metcalfe, Mark Hudgeon, said: “After just over three years on site we are delighted to see the School’s vision finally complete.

“Undertaking a project of this scale and complexity inevitably hasn’t been without its challenges however everyone involved has pulled out all of the stops to reach this point and the final results speak for themselves. The beautifully-designed buildings represent the very best in high-quality, flexible teaching spaces and we are delighted to see the project complete in time for pupils returning this September.

“Speller Metcalfe is very proud to have been part of such an important project for the Foundation and hope that the enhanced facilities are enjoyed by teaching staff and pupils for many years.”
