Plans revealed to transform Grade II listed landmark office building

79-83 Colmore Row

Plans have been revealed to refurbish and extend a landmark city centre office building in Birmingham.

Floreat Investments wants to transform 79-83 Colmore Row – the Grade II listed building built in 1871 and rebrand it to 81 Colmore Row.

A planning application has been submitted to Birmingham City Council which outlines a new rooftop extension, internal alterations to modernise the space, replacement windows, a new disabled access and a new 4,000 sq ft restaurant on the ground level.

The office space across floors 1 to 6 will also been increased by 560 sq ft.

Car parking spaces will be reduced from nine spaces to seven – but there will be new facilities to store 40 bikes – with electric bike charging also provided.

AHR Architects will design the overhaul.

A statement with the planning application reads: “Floreat wish to breath life into an asset that should form a key part of Colmore Row but which does not currently benefit the area due to its inactive frontage at street level.

“Due to the character and location of the property Floreat are excited about the opportunity to create a truly unique offering right in the heart of Birmingham’s prime office pitch.

“The main aims of Floreat are to deliver a product that will both complement and improve Colmore Row and help Birmingham continue to attract top quality businesses into the city.”
