Interior design business marks milestone

Birmingham-based interior design specialist Edward Thomas Interiors is marking its fifth year of trading this month while predicting strong turnover despite the interruptions of the coronavirus pandemic.

Directors and co-owners Andy Richardson and Steve Hird now employ a team of 21 including specialists in design, styling, buying and installation.

From a £1.4m turnover in its first year of trading to £4m recorded in 2019, the directors expect to achieve a similar figure this financial year.

Edward Thomas Interiors is a preferred interior designer for housebuilders such as St Modwen and William Davis Homes and also has group approved supplier status with Barratt David Wilson and Kier Homes in multiple regions.

Hird said: “We’re in a strong position for growth, which we hope to achieve organically and incrementally in the coming years. Our forward order book includes projects in 13 different towns and cities; we hope to offer operations, design and style apprenticeships shortly and in the long-term, have plans to expand the business with complementary services including logistics and soft furnishings installation.”

To mark five years in business, Richardson and Hird have set up a ‘5 for 5’ initiative which pledges to support local charities, college students and their own team.

Hird said: “Naturally we’re immensely proud of achieving five years in business, but we wanted to do more than just talk about it, which is where the ‘5 for 5’ initiative originated. Over the next 12 months, we’re pledging to support five charities with either donations or fundraising; offer five work placements for local design students and undertake five teambuilding activities for our staff.

“Making this commitment is our way of giving back to the people who have helped build this business but also investing in the wider West Midlands community, where we’ve been so successful.”
