Co-op invests £2.3m in two Birmingham food stores

Co-op is set to serve-up two food stores in Birmingham this month following a £2.3m investment supporting 30 local jobs.

The retailer has overhauled the infrastructure of its petrol filling station located in High Street, Harborne, and extended the food store on site by almost one-third to approaching 3,000 sq ft to create a bigger store.

The Harborne store re-opens on Friday, 16 October, following a £1.5m programme of works which started in early June. It includes Amazon Lockers, hot food, a bakery, Costa coffee express and customer car parking.

Co-op is serving up a new store in University Locks, Birmingham on Friday, 23 October, following a near £800,000 investment by the convenience store chain creating 12 jobs.

Groceries are also available from both stores on the Deliveroo App.

Ben Bennett, Co-op area manager, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to make such a significant investment in Birmingham, both stores have a great look and feel, and we have worked to develop the range, choice, products and services locally that will create a really compelling offer to serve the community, conveniently.

“We are committed to connecting communities and making a difference locally, and to operating at the heart of local life. That is why we also want customers to know that they can become a Member of their Co-op, and that they can make a difference to local causes every time they swipe their Membership card when buying own branded products.”
