University appoints first dean to Faculty of Business

Arden University, the pioneer in flexible, online learning, has appointed Dilshad Sheikh (CMgr CCMI) to the role of dean of the Faculty of Business.

The appointment marks the university’s first Dean and Dilshad brings 20 years of experience as an academic in the Higher Education sector. Her most recent role was dean of the Business School at University College Birmingham (UCB).

Dilshad will be responsible for building on Arden’s existing portfolio of business and healthcare management programmes, providing academic leadership and leading on the creation of the university’s planned new schools.

She said: “I feel very privileged to be joining the Arden family as the first Dean of Faculty (Business). I am very grateful to be given this exciting opportunity to build and develop a new faculty from scratch. My ambition is to ensure that we continue to grow, develop and enhance as well as ensure that every learner in the faculty has an outstanding student experience and is supported to achieve their full potential and aspirations.”

Professor Carl Lygo, Arden University’s vice-chancellor and CEO said: “Even in an unprecedented year, as a university we are proud that we are continuing to innovate and grow while providing the best teaching for our students.

“This year we have created six new Schools within the University and Dilshad brings a wealth of experience to lead the first Faculty of Business. Whilst many Universities are experiencing significant financial difficulties, redundancies and restructuring we have found our unique blended of digital learning is very attractive to students and employers.

“It is a mark of how far the University has travelled since first being formed in 2015. I am delighted to welcome exceptional people such as Dilshad and we are committed to attracting and retaining the very best talent.”

The news comes as Arden’s Dr Alison Watson has been appointed to the role of head of the School of Leadership and Management. She joined Arden University in 2014 and will report to Dilshad.
