Major Birmingham office scheme gets green light

How Arena Central will look

Developer Kier’s plans to build a 264,000 sq ft office building in Birmingham city centre have been given the unanimous approval of the council’s planning committee.

Last week, Kier submitted plans to add a further 25,000 sq ft of office space at its 5 Centenary Square scheme in Birmingham city centre.

The revised plans included adding another floor to the proposed building after receiving strong interest from prospective tenants

The plans were passed by Birmingham City Council’s planning committee on Thursday morning (February 18).

A planning statement reads: “The proposals are responding to prospective occupier/market demand, which has also led to a number of minor internal and external alterations.”

Kier also wants to reduce car parking, improve cycle storage, lockers and showers in response to “market feedback”.

Kier bought the 526,000 sq ft development site, along with 4 and 5 Arena Central, in a £30m deal in February 2019, replacing Miller as the developer.
