Engineering firm makes string of hires as business continues rapid growth

Engineering, design and construction firm Burns & McDonnell has hired a dozen new employees across its UK business after a positive year of growth.

Despite external challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic, Burns & McDonnell is growing its UK team, based across its offices in Birmingham and London.

The expanded team will be working on T&D infrastructure projects for energy sector clients and providing multidiscipline design services for data centres across Europe.

This growth follows the announcement that Burns & McDonnell has been selected to join a major National Grid electricity infrastructure framework early in 2021.

The recruitment drive continues the rapid growth of Burns & McDonnell in the UK.

The US-headquartered firm opened its first European office in Birmingham in 2017, and the office has more than tripled in size since.

Jonathan Chapman, UK managing director for Burns & McDonnell, said:  “I’m excited to have a group of talented people join our growing business. Their range of skills and experience is impressive and will be vital as we build the business for the future. At Burns & McDonnell our people are central to making our clients successful, and I’m looking forward to working with and learning from each of our new employees.”

One senior hire, Staffordshire University alumnus Matt Brough, joins the UK T&D practice at Burns & McDonnell as a substation section manager. He will work with clients to help see that the UK’s electricity infrastructure is prepared for the transition to Net Zero.

He said:“It’s a fascinating time to be working in the energy sector and a vital moment for the UK as we transition to Net Zero. I’m excited to be joining a business at the forefront of that work in the UK and around the world.”

Matthew Jones is joining mission critical business practice at Burns & McDonnell as a senior electrical engineer.

He said:  “It’s great to join the talented Burns & McDonnell team working on Mission Critical projects throughout Europe. It’s an exciting prospect to learn from the deep experience the Burns & McDonnell global business has supporting and leading Mission Critical projects around the world.”
