People: The latest West Midlands hires

Law firm Pinsent Masons has announced the promotion of 19 people to its partnership.

The firm’s Birmingham office congratulates Katie Ivens and Carl Scott on their promotions to partner and Rebecca Sulley who is promoted to legal director.

Operating within the firm’s financial services sector, Ivens is a specialist in pensions law. She advises trustees and employer sponsors of occupational pension schemes, as well as insurers, pension scheme providers and master trusts. As well as day to day pensions advice, Katie has advised on a number of large transactions such as corporate takeovers, buy-outs, wind-ups and closures to future accrual.

Advising clients in the real estate and financial services sectors, Scott is head of real estate restructuring and insolvency support for the UK. He also specialises in strategic development and investment transactions in the private health, care home and primary care arenas.

Sulley advises clients on all aspects of employment law and is experienced in dealing with bulk tribunal work and complex tribunal claims as well as advising clients on strategic projects. She is responsible for the leadership of our TS Paralegal Smart Delivery Hub and is closely involved with developing the team’s innovation solution offerings for clients.

JLL has announced that Jessica Hand has joined its rating team in Birmingham as a director.

Hand joins from FHP in Nottingham where she spent 11 years providing rating advice to landlords concentrating on appeal work, redevelopments, empty rates mitigation, and budgeting advice.

Tim Beattie, head of UK rating at JLL, said: “Jessica’s specialist skills are widely respected in the market and will compliment and strengthen our rating service across the regions. Rates have become a significant issue for everyone owning commercial property and this latest appointment strengthens our capability to deliver market leading advice in this specialist area.”

Hand added: “I am delighted to be joining the team at JLL.  It is a really exciting opportunity for me, allowing me to add my expertise in providing specialist rating advice to an established and knowledgeable team. I look forward to working closely with their existing client base and being part of their ambitious growth plans.”

Hand’s appointment follows that of Simon Griffin who joined JLL in 2020 to lead its occupier rating business line.

Specialist insurance broker Cox Mahon has recruited Danielle Crowe as a business analyst with the Shrewsbury-based firm through the Government’s Kickstart scheme for 16-24 year olds.

Sheis one of 1,000 placements being created by Shropshire’s Chamber of Commerce as the first gateway provider in the county to post live vacancies as part of the £2bn scheme to help young people at risk of long-term unemployment.

Director Richard Packman said: “It’s great to support this initiative and have Danielle on board.  We hope she will be climbing mountains and gaining valuable work experience here at Cox Mahon and I look forward to benefiting from her skills and insight. ”
